Fractional and interim C-suite executives
You may need a seasoned CEO, COO, CFO or technology leader long before you can justify another full-time executive hire. We step into the role, work with the team you already have, make the decisions and take responsibility for getting the work done.
What we do
Interim and fractional CEO
Leadership through a transition, a turnaround or a period of rapid growth. We run the leadership team, set priorities with the owner or board, and carry the operating plan.
Fractional COO
Ownership of day-to-day operations: the management rhythm, the metrics, and the cross-functional decisions that stall without a single accountable executive.
Fractional CFO
Finance leadership without a full-time hire: planning and reporting, cash management, lender and investor relationships, and transaction readiness.
Fractional CIO and CTO
Technology leadership at the executive table: architecture, vendors, build-versus-buy decisions, and a roadmap the rest of the leadership team understands.
Fractional CISO
Security leadership that answers to customers, auditors and regulators: policy, risk assessment, incident readiness and the program to close the gaps.
Reporting and succession
Clear reporting to owners, lenders, boards or investors, and a plan from the first month for the permanent leader who will take the seat.
When clients call us
- The owner is acting as CEO, COO and head of technology at once.
- A key executive has left and a search will take months.
- The business has gaps at the top, but several full-time senior hires do not make economic sense.
- A regulator, auditor or major customer is asking questions nobody in-house can answer.
- A transformation needs an owner with authority, not another advisor.
How the engagement runs
The same operating model applies to every practice, so you always know where the work stands and when it will be yours.
Learn the business from inside
A partner joins your leadership rhythm, reads the numbers, talks to the people doing the work, and agrees with you what success looks like in terms you can measure.
Run the plan
We carry the work ourselves. That can mean holding an executive seat, rebuilding a platform, closing a transaction, or all three, with the right partner on each.
Hand it to your team
We hire or develop the person who keeps the seat, document how the work runs, and step back. Many clients keep a partner on as an advisor afterward.
Questions clients ask
What is a fractional executive?
A fractional executive is a senior operator who holds a C-suite role part time. You get the judgment and accountability of an experienced CEO, COO, CFO, CIO or CISO without the cost of a full-time hire, for as long as the business needs it.
How is fractional different from interim?
An interim executive usually works close to full time for a defined period, often while you search for a permanent hire. A fractional executive works a set portion of the week or month on an ongoing basis. Many engagements move from one model to the other as needs change.
How much time will a partner spend with us?
We agree the time commitment at the start, based on the seat and the work. It is set to what the role requires, and we adjust it as the business changes.
Will a fractional executive replace our existing team?
No. Our partners lead and develop the team you have, and fill the gaps where a capability is missing. The goal is a stronger team, not a dependent one.
How does an engagement end?
Every engagement is designed to hand off. We help hire or develop the permanent leader, document how the function runs, and step back. Many clients keep a partner on as an advisor.
